During my time at Microsoft, on their Windows Fonts and Icons team, parts of their interface were going through a major revamp. Our team was tasked in coming up with updated Windows app icons, which aligned with the new Fluent Design treatment done with the Microsoft Office icons.

Below (and above) are just a few I refined, out of many concepts I created. I used a controlled blue palette to ensure hues would not clash, when their final palettes would be assigned. All concepts were done on a 48x48 pixel grid with guides, to ensure consistency with size ratio, corner roundness, and visual alignment.

Icons are scaled up on this page to show detail.
